SEC Chair Signals Regulatory Shift for Crypto Markets
Paul Atkins, the newly appointed Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has declared a "new day" for cryptocurrency regulation. In a speech at the SEC Speaks conference, Atkins acknowledged the sector’s prolonged regulatory uncertainty, stating that crypto markets have "been languishing in SEC limbo for years."
The SEC chief revealed he has directed staff to draft formal rule proposals for digital assets, marking a potential turning point in the agency’s approach. This development comes as the Commission seeks to balance technological innovation with its investor protection mandate.
